The Bottom Line

Traditionally, credit card products have been limited in their reach, targeting only a small, privileged segment of the population. As of the end of 2021, there were a mere 726,000 active credit cards, translating to a penetration rate of a mere 0.6 cards per 100 adults. However, amidst these numbers lies an untapped opportunity to unlock the full potential of the credit card market so it is quite exciting that credit cards are gaining popularity in Nigeria. What this means for the average Nigerian especially the middle class is that you don’t have to wait before you can buy that new phone or desktop. With a good credit rating, you can get access to a credit card and satisfy your consumption needs.
